Our Mission

Our mission is to provide education, service, and research that contribute to improving the public’s health by ensuring the delivery of high quality health care and preventive services.

We accomplish this mission by developing innovative curriculum, recognized both nationally and internationally, that prepares students to pursue careers as executives and managers in acute and ambulatory care and senior housing/assisted living organizations, as well as specialists in health informatics, health care risk management, health policy and research, primary prevention, and public health.

Our experienced faculty are highly involved in novel and original research activities across all aspects of health systems administration and policy, and they routinely collaborate with colleagues from other institutions in the United States and internationally and several public agencies,non-governmental organizations, and private think tanks. They are often called on by health and social agencies and Congress to provide expert testimony to inform policy.

We are currently ranked in the top 40 (33) among the nation’s health care management programs by U.S. News & World Report (2017). Additionally, our Master of Health Administration, Concentration in Executive Management is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Management Education (CAHME), our Master of Science in Health Informatics is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation for Health Informatics and Information Management Education (CAHIIM), our Master of Public Health in Health Policy is accredited by the Council on Education for Public Health (CEPH), and our Bachelor of Science in Health Administration, the largest program in Virginia, is certified by the Association of University Programs in Health Administration (AUPHA).
