Course Sequence (On-Campus)

On-Campus Program

Courses for the on-campus MS in Health Informatics are taught in the afternoons and evenings on the Fairfax Campus, and some courses are also available online. Completion of the on-campus program typically requires 2 years full-time and 2.5-3 years part-time, depending on course load.

The following suggested course sequences below refer to the on-campus program. Courses offered may vary from semester to semester. Selected courses are also offered in the summer to allow students to complete the program in a shorter time. Complete your plan of study and, if needed, discuss with your advisor.

Most courses should be taken in order, and some required courses are available only in the spring or fall semesters. Examples of both full- and part-time course sequences are available. Students are not required to strictly follow one of these sequences as long as course prerequisites are satisfied. Students can complete their degree at their own pace provided that they do so within six years of starting the program. Many courses are offered in either spring or fall semester, but not both. You need to plan ahead to ensure the course is available in the semester you plan to take it. Selected courses are offered over the summer – contact the department for availability.

Thesis or workshop, pre-capstone, and capstone courses need to be taken at the end of the program. Both thesis and capstone options take two semesters to complete.

The following sequences are for students who joined the program in the academic year 2024/2025. Students should follow sequences and need to complete requirements for their specific cohort, which may be different than those listed below. Click here for older sequences
