MS in Health Informatics Program Competencies

MS in Health Informatics students will learn the following competencies in their concentration courses.

Health Data Analytics

  1. Select appropriate computational methods and visualization tools for solving data analytic problems in healthcare and public health.   
  2. Query structured health data within database systems to preprocess data for data analysis.   
  3. Apply machine learning methods to construct models for predicting patient outcomes at individual and population levels.   

Health Informatics Management

  1. Use data and interoperability standards in healthcare project management.   
  2. Manage health IT projects.
  3. Identify threats to security and privacy of health information systems.

Public Health Informatics

  1. Select appropriate computational methods for solving public health problems.   
  2. Identify tools for public health data collection, disease identification, and control.   
  3. Analyze population-wide data from consumer health devices.   

Health Quality Analytics

  1. Query structured health data to extract and calculate quality measures.
  2. Use data and interoperability standards to integrate data for quality improvement.
  3. Apply statistical tools to extract and calculate quality measures.
