With the ever-changing health care system, it is important that organizations use quality improvement efforts to help ensure patients are receiving quality care. These efforts are particularly important in an era where health care entities are increasingly coordinating care through the use of patient-centered medical homes and accountable care organizations.
John Cantiello, HAP assistant professor, and Panagiota Kitsantas, HAP associate professor, along with former HAP graduate students Shirley Moncada and Sabiheen Abdul, explore the evolution of quality improvement in health care, focusing on patient-centered care and information technology applications including patient registries, in a new study published in the Journal of Hospital Administration.
The review examines the history of quality improvement and how quality improvement has impacted the health care industry. The authors also examine possible future directions of quality improvement in health care. They suggest that future quality improvement work will need to rely on a combination of various approaches to meet the changing needs of an evolving health care system. Read the full review.
