Constance Owens, PhD student, to receive national student award at the November 2019 American Public Health Association (APHA) meeting in Philadelphia, PA
Constance Owens, MPH, a second-year doctoral student in HAP, received one of six scholarship awards nationwide from the 2019 American Public Health Association (APHA). The graduate student scholarship awards, which are selected based on a competitive review of applications to the APHA Disability Section, provides each student with a $1,000 stipend to cover registration and travel expenses to present research findings at the APHA meeting in Philadelphia, PA from November 2-6, 2019.
Her poster presentation in the APHA Disability Section session on Health Care Access is titled “Addressing Disparities in Health Care Access for Adults with Disabilities: Early versus Late Medicaid Expansion States”. The study is co-authored with Dr. Gilbert Gimm, an associate professor in the Department of Health Administration and Policy. Constance is passionate about promoting health equity in maternal and pediatric care, as well as improving access to care and reducing disparities for adults and children with disabilities. She will one of six students who will receive an award at the Disability Section Awards Reception on November 4, 2019.
