Executive in Residence

The Department of Health Administration and Policy’s Master of Health Administration (MHA) program is one of the few top programs nationwide to feature an Executive in Residence (EIR). Supporting both undergraduate and graduate students, the EIR serves as an advisor, mentor, guest lecturer, and leadership coach, bridging academic learning with real-world application.

With more than four decades of healthcare leadership experience, the Executive in Residence offers valuable insights on industry trends, emerging challenges, and best practices. The role also contributes to curriculum development through case studies and objective guidance on complex management issues. By integrating academic rigor with practical experience, the EIR enhances the educational experience and prepares students for leadership roles in today’s healthcare landscape.

Meet Dave Wright, Executive in Residence

Dave Wright, MPH, is a seasoned healthcare executive with over forty years of experience in strategic planning, marketing, physician integration, and corporate development. He has held senior leadership roles across hospitals, healthcare technology firms, and nonprofit organizations. Most recently, he served as chief operating officer for Vital Software, an AI-driven patient engagement company.

Wright earned his bachelor’s degree in biology from Virginia Tech and a master of public health with an emphasis in healthcare administration from the University of California, Los Angeles. His background also includes teaching as an adjunct professor at Virginia Commonwealth University and Marymount University. In addition to his executive leadership, Wright is a certified life and health coach, further enhancing the guidance he provides to students.
